Incident Management

TJA Conferencing

Length: The TJA Conference typically involves up to 8 days of work. This includes days for interviews and preparation, one day for the TJA Conference and one day for preparation of a TJA Conference Report and follow-up.

TJA Conferencing is a group process used to address conflict in the workplace and allows affected individuals to confront their difficulties and develop a plan to overcome them. TJA Conferencing is not mediation, it is a structured three-stage process designed to turn conflict into cooperation.

Stage 1 - Preparation
Everyone affected by the conflict is interviewed to determine their understanding of what has happened. Individuals are assisted in reflecting on their contribution to the conflict and in identifying what they could have done differently. By the time the group comes together, individuals have agreed to acknowledge what has been happening.

Stage 2 - TJA Conference Facilitation
The TJA Conference is a structured meeting involving all those affected by the events.  It takes the following form:

  • Talking through various incidents that contributed to the conflict.
  • Finding out how these incidents and behaviours have affected each person personally and their ability to work cooperatively in the team.
  • Coming to a TJA Conference Agreement about what individuals (and the group) need to do to make things better.  It takes the form of a written document, with people accepting responsibility to be held personally accountable for seeing the TJA Conference Agreement implemented in specific time frames.

Stage 3 - Follow-up
ProActive stays in touch with the participants to ensure the TJA Conference Agreement is implemented in full.
